About The Outing
In 1997, a group of 10 good friends decided to get together to play a little golf. Off they went to Devil's Head Golf Resort in Baraboo, Wisconsin and little did they know the tradition they would start. Four rounds of golf, five-six cases of beer, a couple dozen lost golf balls, a HOLE IN ONE and 1 million references to the Dalai Lama from Caddyshack - and the Big Hitters Golf Outing was born (Big Hitter the Lama was..........).
Since then the Big Hitters Outing has had up to 36 players in a single year, moved the tournament to Gull Lake Golf Resort in Augusta, Michigan, moved a third time to Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Indiana and developed the weekend into a full-fledged golf tournament. Our tournament includes three handicapped tournament rounds, a four man scramble and a two man alternate shot scramble. During this nearly 20 year run every event was played on all five courses offered by Gull Lake meaning in a single weekend you were not playing the same hole more than once! And every other year to coincide with the Ryder Cup we hold our own "Lager Cup". The players get split into teams and they play for the honor of their .. country? sometimes .. favorite beer manufacturer? if its Stroh's sure .. oh just forget it - they play for the honor of whatever team they are part of that year!!
The coveted prizes for the weekend include the winners Plaid Jacket, the Crystal Big Hitters Trophy and the Golden Hacker Award.

Charitable Causes
From 2008 to 2017 the Big Hitters group collected donations for Make a Wish a cause near and dear to our original event planner's heart. Everyone attending would donate what they could and we'd get the course to chip in too. Over that time we were able to directly fulfill numerous wishes for children. No child should have to battle the circumstances that these kids are in. For the outing we have asked that each member donate a small amount to Make a Wish and we pass the information around to as many friends and family members that we could.
For 2018 to 2020 the Big Hitters group made our donations to the American Heart Assocation. We have done this to celebrate the successful heart transplant for Candy Singer, wife of our very own Michael Singer. She is currently going through the long rehabilition and recovery process. Please consider donating and help fight the fight against heart disease!
Since 2021 we have returned to benefitting Make A Wish again and in 2023 we received donations exceeding $2000. The donation link remains active all year and only gets updated as we get close to the next year's outing

Absolutely, take a look at the Registration List

What is the format of the weekend?
Five rounds of golf are played. Two on Friday, Two on Saturday and one Sunday AM. The first three rounds are guaranteed to be stroke play. The last two rounds vary depending on the year and the committee's whims. Generally Sunday AM is a scramble round to allow for relaxing send off after a lot of golf. Depending on the year we may be running a Lager Cup event concurrently and while stroke play was still happening there'd be match play going on as well.
-
What is the total cost for the weekend?
Including your deposit of $350 you will spend approximately $600 for the hotel room and five rounds of golf. All food / drink is separate and the responsibility of each player.
