About The Outing
In 1997, a group of 10 good friends decided to get together to play a little golf. Off they went to Devil's Head Golf Resort in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and little did they know the tradition they would start. Four rounds of golf, a HOLE IN ONE, and one million references to Caddyshack's Dalai Lama later — the Big Hitters Golf Outing was born.
Since then the outing has grown to as many as 36 players in a single year, moved to Gull Lake Golf Resort in Augusta, Michigan, and then to its current home at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. The weekend now includes handicapped stroke-play rounds, a four-man scramble, and a two-man alternate-shot scramble. Every other year, to coincide with the Ryder Cup, we run our own "Lager Cup" — players split into teams and compete for the honor of whatever team they're on that year.
The coveted prizes: the winner's Plaid Jacket, the Crystal Big Hitters Trophy, and the Golden Hacker Award.
Charitable Causes
From 2008 to 2017 the Big Hitters group collected donations for Make-A-Wish, a cause near and dear to our original event planner's heart. Everyone attending donated what they could, and the course chipped in too — over that time we directly helped fulfill numerous wishes for children.
From 2018 to 2020 we donated to the American Heart Association, in honor of Candy Singer (wife of longtime member Michael Singer) and her heart transplant and recovery.
Since 2021 we've returned to Make-A-Wish — in 2023 we raised over $2,000. The donation link stays active year-round and is updated as we approach each year's outing.

Thursday
- All Day Golf / Club Drop-Off
Show up early for a round or hit the driving range. Clubs can be left at the clubhouse — talk to the attendants out front — and they'll be tagged and ready before every round.

Arrive 20 minutes before the outings first tee time. If you dropped clubs off Thursday, they'll already be on your cart.

Dinner options. You can eat at the restaurant on site or head off site on your own.
Saturday

What is the format of the weekend?
Five rounds of golf: two on Friday, two on Saturday, one Sunday morning. The first three rounds are stroke play. The last two vary by year and committee whim — Sunday AM is usually a scramble for a relaxed send-off. In Lager Cup years, match play runs alongside the stroke play rounds.
What is the total cost for the weekend?
